aden + anais Cozy Sleeping Bag Review and Giveaway

With this as one of the coldest winters on record, naturally, parents have been doing what they can to keep babes big and small warm all winter long.

But did you know that infants who are overdressed or covered in heavy blankets or many blankets are at higher risk for SIDS? Contrary to our instincts to layer heavy blankets on ourselves, it is advised that babies to be dressed lightly to avoid overheating. The CJ Foundation, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the special needs of the SIDS community through funding SIDS research, support services and public awareness programs, recommends the use of wearable blankets and sleep-sacks in place of blankets to keep infants warm while sleeping.

One of my favorite baby brands aden + anais, who is a sponsor of the CJ Foundation, makes Cozy Sleeping Bag, which keeps these safe sleeping recommendations in mind.
aden + anais products, including their Cozy Sleeping Bag features breathable muslin cotton, which allows baby’s body temperature to adjust naturally, reducing the risk of overheating.

If I had to describe muslin for those who aren’t familiar, I’d have to say, its texture is thick (the Cozy  Sleeping Bag is 4 layers thick) soft, resilient and gauze-like, making this material ideal for all seasons.  You can read a more thorough description about muslin here.  I’ve professed my love for aden + anais products in the past, and my fondness applies to the Cozy Sleeping Bag as well.  It’s durable, light, yet keeps baby warm and the patterns are so modern and cute.
We let my newborn nephew try out the Cozy Sleeping Bag. Unlike my boy who was always warm as a baby, my nephew is a cold baby; Baby G seemed to stay warm and comfy while he slept in the sleeping bag.

If you’re familiar with aden + anais, then I’m sure you know that their muslin products are high quality and generous in size.  I love their blankets for baby shower gifts because in a closet full of baby blankets, they’re the kind of blankets that I would reach for first.  (And if you’re like me, I love thinking about the person who gave me a gift, especially my most useful, beloved baby gifts.)  aden + anais Cozy Sleeping Bags are in the $40 pricepoint, and I have seen them on discounted sites such Babysteals.com.

I’m a true fan of aden + anais products, so I liked learning about their involvement with the CJ Foundation. Here’s a little blurb that they sent that I wanted to share:

The CJ Foundation recently launched its Sleep in Safety, Grow in Style (SSGS) campaign to help educate parents about the importance of designing safe sleeping environments for babies. aden + anais is working to help the CJ Foundation inform parents of the many ways they can keep their baby safe. While over-heating is one risk-factor for SIDS, SSGS and aden + anais seek to educate parents about this and the other risk-reducing, precautionary practices:

  • Consider the use of fans to increases ventilation
  • Room temperature should be comfortable for a lightly-clothed adult, approximately 61-67 degree Fahrenheit
  • Cribs should be totally free of all loose blankets, stuffed animals and crib bumpers
  • Lay baby to sleep in an improved crib, on a firm mattress; do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad or waterbed
  • No smoking when pregnant or near baby
  • If possible, breastfeed baby
  • Offer a pacifier at bedtime
  • Co-sleeping should be in the same room but not the same bed or other sleep surface as parents
