Crayola Touts Creative Outdoor Play with New Sets

Crayola, always a favorite here on NKT, was one of the many fabulous exhibitors at the recent Time to Play Spring and Summer Showcase.

Crafts and the outdoors should go hand in hand, what with the fairly easy clean up and the expansive canvas.  And as always, Crayola is at the forefront of the outdoor artistry when it comes to kids.

At the showcase, Crayola’s table had a variety of colorful goodies, including the latest additions to their product line: the Sidewalk Chalk Maker, Spira-Chalk Blaster and the 3D Disney Fairies and 3D Disney Toy Story Activity Sets.

The Chalk Maker is a new take on the outdoor favorite, except with this activity set, kids take their artistry a step back and create their own tools.  With the Chalk Maker, kids can mix, blend and create their own chalk in safari or Caribbean creature shapes.    After combining the colored chalk powder with water in the mixing bottles, the mixture is then poured in the mold.  After 15 minutes, the chalk is ready to go.  The set comes with 6 jars of colored chalk powder and two reusable mold trays.  These sets retail for $9.99 to 14.99.

Spira-Chalk Blaster is a combination of classic kid favorites: spinning top and sidewalk chalk.  The Spira-Chalk uses kid power to crank and then whirl, which launches the chalk into a colorful-spun design.  Check out the video from the Showcase.

We had the chance to try these out, which entertained us for quite awhile.  The Spira-Chalk Blaster, a truly unique activity, is a welcome addition to our outdoor toys.  And based on the effect it had on all the surrounding kids, this toy is a hit with kids of all ages.  What I loved most though, is that we already have a bucket of chalk that works well with the Spira-Chalk Blaster.  They’re like accessories for toys we already own.  The set comes with two chalk wheels and 5 sticks of sidewalk chalk and retails for $9.99

Crayola, no stranger to licensed activity sets, has introduced the 3D Disney Fairies and 3D Toy Story Activity Sets. The set includes good sized stencils of Tinkerbell or Buzz Lightyear and Woody to help kids to chalk their own 3D storylines.  The 3D effect, though not quite an understood concept with my toddler, is a cool way to promote creativity and imagination.  With the upcoming release of Toy Story 3, anything branded with Buzz or Woody will be a favorite, and this set goes without saying.

In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve chosen to be very selective of giveaways.  Quality vs. quantity is my mantra these days…and let’s just say, I have quite the backlog of quality stuff coming up!  I can’t wait to share!

Though I was provided product samples to facilitate this review, I was not compensated to provide my honest opinion.
