Christmas is in the air, guys. Just this week, I attended 3 holiday-related events including this fun one that train lovers would enjoy!
Well loved among train enthusiasts and little kids alike, Lionel Electric Trains, recently opened its first pop up retail shop in Rockefeller Center. In its 100+ year history, this is the first time Lionel Trains has set up shop in New York, 30 Rock on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues to be exact.
Because of its high traffic location, this pop up shop in the heart of midtown attracted a flock of tourists and shoppers. The Lionel store featured various train sets, including an impressive set that was activated with the push of a button.
I particularly loved the two-tiered train set on display that circled a Christmas Tree. Among all the solid and very intricate trains on display, I noticed a few licensed sets including The Polar Express G-Gauge—a set that I’d love to go around our Christmas Tree! Though these trains are on the high end and many are geared to the older kids (and their dads) the store had a number of trains out on display for shoppers to check out firsthand. And for the little dudes, Lionel launched Little Lines this year for the toddler set.
While we were at the store preview, Lionel also gave us a glimpse to their new CGI movie “Lionelville,” which seemed to be an instant hit for the whole crowd.
The Lionel Train Store will be open until January 5th, 2010 and will feature hundreds of toy trains, accessories and collectibles. Store hours will be 10 am – 9 pm weekdays and 11 am – 7 pm weekends, but will often have extended hours for special events and celebrations. If you’re in New York and are in midtown doing some shopping, or better yet, checking out the Tree or The Christmas Spectacular, be sure to check them out.
For those not in New York, Lionel Trains can be found online 24/7.
