Y Water? Why, of course!

What do you get when you combine a nutritious drink that can be multi-purposed as a toy? Well, besides my kid’s sippy cup.

I’m talking about Y Water.

On first impression, I was so intrigued by the eye-catching packaging. It’s almost like abstract art that contains a kiddie drink. In a similar vein of the wildly popular Vitamin Water, Y Water drinks, which are aimed at kids, are organic, low calorie beverages with vitamins and minerals. Y Water which hit the shelves in 2008 comes from Venice Beach, Ca. Y Water can be bought at various Whole Foods and health food stores on the West Coast, and seems to be making its way here on the East Coast.

I recently read about Y Water, and so I bought one at Garden of Eden so that we could try it out. We tried Immune Water, and the taste was very similar to one of my favorite Vitamin Waters, and not as sweet. The packaging, though cool, wasn’t very conducive for toddler accessibility, but I’m sure it’s easy to hold for older kids. Y Water comes in four different flavors that each have a different “purpose”–Muscle Water, Muscle Water, Bone Water, Immune Water, and Brain Water.

After doing a bit of digging to find out more about Y Water, once I found out that the empty Y Water bottles become Lego-like toys with connectors, otherwise known as Y Knots, I decided that I loved this new “developmental drink” even more. I mean, how cool is that?

I think this is a novel concept and a great alternative to those other kids’ beverages  As drinks like Y Water penetrate the market, Business Week is forecasting that “Targeting kids is part of a broader strategy by the beverage industry to tailor drinks to niche consumer segments.” The packaging and equally nifty website is sure to lure curious and conscientious parents like me, all while quelling our kids’ thirst (and bones, immunity, etc.)

At around $3.00 for a 9 oz. bottle, though we may not stock up on these drinks in bulk quite yet, I will, however, keep an eye on Y Water and perhaps, add a few more to our collection.

Have you tried Y Water or even seen them in the stores yet?
