Evian lives young with dancing babe

It’s kind of chilling how just a few weeks ago I posted a moonwalking baby video.  The dancing baby that’s part of the latest Evian campaign gave a nod to Michael Jackson’s unforgettable dance moves, and shows just how much MJ’s music and career have influenced pop culture.

Evian’s latest campaign is as timely as ever.  Known  for celebrating youth, Evian has another dancing baby.  This time, another baby is breakdancing to the Sugar Hill Gang’s classic, Rapper’s Delight (one of the best songs, ever!)

Be on the lookout for Evian’s latest Live Young ad campaign.  These dancing babies will be everywhere soon.  With my birthday just a weeks away, and realizing that I’ll be in my mid-30s, living young is an idea that certainly hits home.

Barbie hearts Jonathan Adler

Nope, he’s not her new boyfriend, but more like a business associate.  Ok, so this isn’t for kids, but it does include many mamas’ beloved gal pals.  Barbie, the style icon who is celebrating her 50th year, is teaming up with one of my favorite interior designers, Jonathan Adler.  Adler, who is well known for his happy chic style, is bringing Barbie’s dreamhouse to life for grownups.

That’s right, ladies.  If hot pink is your thing, “Barbie Loves Jonathan Adler” line of décor pieces, including pottery, pillows and more will be available this September.

Proper mess means a proper pig

I’ve been enjoying the tweets I’ve been receiving about BookExpo America that’s taking place right now in NYC.  I wanted to attend one of the children’s book and authors events, but since I couldn’t attend, instead, I thought I’d share one of the many books that we enjoy– Little Oink by By Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Jen Corace.

Little Oink is a cute story about a pig who loves to clean.  His parents, however, insist that “in order to be a proper pig, he has to learn to how make a proper mess.”  As a creative type who often had a ‘pigstye’ of my own to clean, I appreciate this role reversal and  and all around lovable book.

Check out the trailer for the book, too! Read More

Google Doodle: What I Wish for the World

The fun folks at Google have done it again. This time, they’re tugging at my heart strings with their latest Google Doodle competition. This year’s theme, What I Wish for the World, encouraged students in K-12 to mesh their doodled ideas with Google’s logo. As a company that dreams big and thinks big, it’s no surprise that the finalists’ entries are nothing short of amazing—as is the national winner’s prize!

The National Winner will win a $15,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice, a trip to the Google New York Office, a laptop computer, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle. Google will also award the winner’s school a $25,000 technology grant towards the establishment/improvement of a computer lab.

It’s so hard to choose, but I think this is my favorite:

lowery_k_tn

The artist is 5 year old Miriam Elizabeth Lowery from Austin Peay Elementary in TN. She says her wish for the world is that everyone would get along and treat one another in a nice and loving way. We could all be friends!

I second that, Miriam!

You can check out all Google Doodle finalists and vote for your favorite until the end of the week.

Hatley rain gear

They say April showers brings May flowers, but I think Mother Nature has a different agenda this year. We’ve seen a lot of rain in the past few weeks here in the Tri-State area, and I hear it’s pretty much the same in other parts of the East Coast.

Always on the prowl for practical, yet fun kid accessories, I came acrross Hatley’s great selection of rain gear.  I always complain that most retailers crowd the boys’ department racks with clothes splattered with choo-choo trains and puppy dogs. Well, not Hatley, they go beyond puppy dogs with cool designs on their rainboots like aliens, moose and camping gear!  I can take trains and puppies in moderation, so I appreciate Hatley’s adorable selection of rain gear.  The pirate rainboots are definitely my favorite.

Insert cutesey Arrrgh! or other pirate-y catchphrase here 😉

The girls’ selection has accessories beyond pink for those in the pink rebellion!  Check out this adorable apple print umbrella–it’s so cute without being sticky sweet.

Got Milk? Toys “R” Us Might

Toys “R” Us announced that they’re adding some new inventory. In addition to Barbies and Thomas the Train, the retailer will now sell snacks, beverages, paper goods, laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. Just a few weeks after announcing their discount shop concept, Toys “R” Us will be adding the “R” Market to the front of 260 stores. While the new concept may not offer the same variety as a grocery store, the “R” Market aims to accommodate shoppers with the convenience of one-stop shopping.

According to an article in Time, the prices at “R” market weren’t as competitive as other big box stores. Convenience is the keyword here, so expect to pay more for the accessibility to your Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies while shopping for Polly Pockets. Ok, so they won’t have a full blown dairy aisle, but it seems like they will have a lot of good stuff to offer.
